ABC for Health is dedicated to ensuring health care access for children and families. Dane County hospitals spend below the national average on care for the poor, reaping far greater advantages from their tax-exempt status than they repay to the local community. Congratulations ABC & MCP: On November 14, ABC for Health and our health IT subsidiary My Coverage Plan, Inc. competed in the WI Tech Council’s Early Stage Symposium “Pitch Olympics” for promising companies and innovative concepts. We won first place! We profiled our FirstCheck WI application to crush avoidable medical debt, using our SafetyWeb Network for Free and Charitable Clinics as an example. In a pilot with free clinics, 1200 patients held over $1.5 million in medical debt. FirstCheck WI, using our patented, decision-support advocate/patient interview process helped patients crush over $1 million of that debt. We also identified opportunities for these folks to maintain health coverage into the future and avoid future medical debt. We know that preventing medical debt is the best way to go! Report: ABC for Health has issued a report in October 2022 titled "Medical Debt & Collections in Wisconsin: Restarting the Collections Machine." Some Wisconsin hospitals and specialty providers have resumed aggressive collections lawsuits after a pause during the COVID pandemic.

Report: ABC for Health issued a report titled "Medical Debt & Collections: A Better Way Forward for Wisconsin." In a sampling of medical debt collections actions in Wisconsin, where health systems sought over $10 million in judgments, patients were represented by an attorney in fewer than 1% of cases.
